(Washington, DC) – Tomorrow, Mayor Muriel Bowser will announce the reopening of the newly constructed 16th Street Bridge – two weeks ahead of schedule and just in time for the Fourth of July weekend. The District Department of Transportation replaced the 57-year-old bridge in less than three months using an innovative method called ‘accelerated bridge construction,’ in which large bridge components are made off-site and then transported to the work site for installation.  The bridge reconstruction is part of a larger effort to improve infrastructure around the intersection of 16h Street and Military Road NW, including refurbished roadway, new drainage infrastructure, and upgraded traffic signals and street lights.  The Mayor and her administration are working hard to ensure that the District’s transportation infrastructure remains safe and reliable.
